JUBA – Mobile phone giant MTN South Sudan has launched a new customer campaign, “Play to Win,” offering exciting prizes and supporting the national basketball team, the Bright Stars.

MTN CEO Monzer Ali announced the promotion at a press conference in Juba on Wednesday.

“We are proudly announcing our MTN Play to Win campaign aiming mainly to support the federation, to support the Bright Star, the national basketball team as they compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics representing Africa,” Ali stated.

The campaign, running from May to July 31st, 2024, offers fans a chance to win various prizes, including motorbikes, smartphones, mountain bike kits, and even a fully sponsored trip to France to cheer on the team at the Olympics.

“Our primary objective of this campaign is to unite the fans beyond the Bright Star and raise awareness about the power of sport in fostering national unity,” Ali explained.

He emphasized the campaign’s goal of uniting fans and raising awareness in support of the national team.

MTN will invest $100,000 to allow fans to watch the games on giant public screens in select Juba and state venues.

“We are excited to have the Bright Star participate in the Olympics 2024 and to have some of our customers cheer the basketball team live as they make their first of many participations in the Olympic games in France,” Ali concluded.

The Bright Stars secured their historic qualification for the Paris Olympics with a victory over Angola in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, marking a significant achievement for South Sudanese basketball.

The 2024 Summer Olympics will be held from July 26th to August 11th.
