READ | National Security Report on 2013, 2016 conflicts

JUBA – South Sudan’s National Security Service on Tuesday released a report it says details events leading to the outbreak of the violent conflict in December 2013 and July 2016.

In the report, National Security Service said First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny was responsible for planning a failed ‘coup’, while Vice President Taban Deng Gai, the Unity state governor, was tasked with coordination with army generals.

The report claims that Machar planned the coup and was seeking and getting help from Nuer generals of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army, then South Sudan’s national army.
