JUBA – Sudans Post editorial team has apologized to the opposition Nation Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin after it mistakenly reported last week that the group has hinted at withdrawal from the implementation process of the revitalized peace agreement.

NDM in its statement marking Independence Day issued a press statement rejecting further extension of the transitional period, and called for a meeting of the signatories to the agreement as well as holdout opposition groups to be held outside the country in order to agree on the way forward.

But Sudans Post reported that the opposition group was hinting at withdrawing from the implementation of the revitalized agreement.

“In our coverage of the statement of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) marking the 11th Independence Anniversary, it was reported that the NDM hinted to withdraw from the R-TGoNU and that it called for a conference of the opposition abroad,” Sudans Post Editorial Team said in a statement this morning.

“As is clear in the statement, the NDM stated that the current R-TGoNU can’t get its term extended beyond the Transitional Period and that the conference it called for was an inclusive conference to include all signatories to the Revitalized Agreement and the holdout groups to be held outside the country apparently because the holdout groups cannot attend a meeting in Juba or in South Sudan,” it added.

The Post apologized “to the NDM for any inconvenience caused by this error and we will make sure to avoid such mistakes in the future.”
