JUBA/KUAJOK – Former governor of South Sudan’s defunct Norther Liech state Joseph Nguen Manytuil is arming civilians to attack villages in the country’s Warrap state, a local government official said on Wednesday following displacement of civilians in an area in Warrap.

Kur Bol Kur, the Secretary-General of Aweng Payam in Warrap state said thousands of innocent civilians have been displaced in the state after an attack which he said was instigated by Manytuil killed ten (10) people.

“About ten people were killed last week by civilians who came from Mayom County in Unity state. These continued attacks have now displaced almost eight (8) thousand people,” Kur told Sudans Post from Kuajok.

He accused the former state governor of being behind the attack saying he had armed youth in Mayom county to cause havoc in order to portray himself as the only person who can keep the stability between Unity state and Warrap and win reappointment as governor of Unity state.

“Dr. Joseph Nguen is the person who is arming the youth in Mayom. He is telling them to go and attack their neighbors in order to prove that without him peace will not prevail between Unity state and other neighboring states,” Kur said.

He further called on Mayom youth “to desist from attacks that can cause cross-border relations between the two states and jeopardize the efforts at the national level to achieve peace and stability in the country.”
