BENTIU — At least nine gang members have been arrested in connection with the killing of a 23-year-old man in the Bentiu internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Unity State, police said on Monday.

Captain John Malieth, spokesperson of Unity State Police, told Sudans Post today that the suspects were detained following a deadly clash between two rival gangs in block nine’s sector four of the IDP camp.

“The nine suspects are members of two gangs—the ‘Old Star’ group and the ‘Jamaica’ group—that have been involved in violent confrontations over the past two days,” Malieth said.

The victim, identified as Mamuch Chan, was a member of the Jamaica group. He reportedly died during the clashes.

“All nine suspects are in custody at the Bentiu IDP joint police station. They will be transferred to the police headquarters for further investigation,” Malieth said.

He added that delays in reporting the incident prevented the arrest of the individual directly responsible for Chan’s death.

According to the police spokesman, Chan hailed from Panyijiar County, while the primary suspect is believed to be from Mayiendit County. Investigations are ongoing.
