Oil firm pays tuition fees for over 400 students in Unity state’s Guit, Kock, Leer, Panyijiar & Mayendit

JUBA – At least 418 students from five counties in oil rich Unity State have been offered university sponsorship by the Sudd Petroleum Operating Company. The company would pay their tuition fees until the end of the academic year.

Sudd Petroleum Operating company’s administration has agreed to offer yearly full tuition fees sponsorship to all the undergraduate students from block SA, who are pursuing Bachelor’s degrees and diploma programs in different national universities and higher institutes in the country.

“We are extremely excitable and grateful indeed to SPOC administration basically community development for quickly response to our direly need for tuitions fees assistance, our preeminent honorary support to Sudd Petroleum operating company will enlightening forevermore,” the Chairperson for Leer county Students Association in Universities, Mai Puot Gatluak was quoted by the Juba-based No 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper yesterday.

He said that the company has also promised to include the newly admitted students to the new sponsorship program and would include the students who are studying in private institutions.

Meanwhile the Chairperson for Guit Students” Association in Universities, Mawich Phan said it was one of the greatest step taken by the company because they have been looking for this support.

“As a student, this is one of the great impact, if they continue pay the universities students who may drop out over the lack of tuition fees and we encourage the oil operating company to continue with that work and this is one of the services that the community has been waiting before” Phan said.

He applauded the SPOC for their decision to sponsor students from various universities in South Sudan. The Sudd Petroleum Operating Company sponsorship program target the students from five counties in Unity state, these includes, Guit, Leer, Koch, Panyijiar and Mayendit counties.
