Nathaniel Oyet Pierinio, the current deputy chairperson of the SPLM-IO and first deputy speaker of the transitional parliament was appointed by the main armed opposition leader as the group’s representative to the NCAC in 2019 following the signing of the revitalized peace agreement.
He has remained in the position despite being appointed to senior positions in the SPLM-IO and the unity government.
In a letter directed to the leadership of the National Constitutional Amendment Committee, Machar said Oyet will now be replaced by Godfrey Dici William, as the representative of the SPLM-IO to the national committee.
“I am writing to inform your august office to replace Hon. Nathaniel Oyet Pierinio with Mr. Godfrey Dici William as SPLM/SPLA(IO) nominee in the National Constitutional Amendment Committee (NCAC),” Machar said in the letter August 25, 2022.
The SPLM-IO and the former ITGONU signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in September 2018 in Addis Ababa following months of negotiations in the Sudanese capital Khartoum under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
Based on the that agreement, the NCAC is tasked to complete the tasks necessary to prepare for the Transitional Period and the formation of the Revitalized Transitional; Government of National Unity (RTGoNU.)
