Lalibela is a town in the Amhara region and a United Nations World Heritage site.
Tigrayan forces recaptured Lalibela on Sunday afternoon just less than two weeks after government forces and their regional allies took control, witnesses told Reuters on Sunday.

“I was told so,” he said. “I think he let this evening.”
