RUMBEK – Police on Monday arrested eight criminal gangs terrorizing residents of Rumbek town.

The state police spokesperson, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac confirmed the arrests, but said calm has returned to the town.

” On March 3, a young man was cut with panga in Rumbek town market and the police managed to apprehend one of the gangsters. He was arrested and taken to Rumbek central police station and investigation is going on”, he said.

Mabor said the victim has been taken to Rumbek hospital for treatment.

Another fight, the officer said, erupted between two gang groups on Monday.

“One crew is known as no apology and the other one is Mifia. These two crews fought with pangas in Rumbek town on Monday with 8 people sustaining injuries. The police and other security organs intervened and managed to arrest the situation and some of them have been apprehended,” Mabor stressed.

He said the eight injured people were evacuated to Rumbek hospital.

The police spokesperson warned the public against condoning crimes committed by criminal gangs, urging parents to take good care of their children.

“I want to advise them that everybody should take care of his child. Everyone should advise his child to refrain from criminal activities, otherwise if it is difficult, then it’s better to open a case against the child and send him to prison,” he said.
