Police claims peaceful protesters infiltrated by ‘anti-gov’t’ operatives

JUBA – South Sudan police is claiming that activists who protested the death of a singer which occurred when a water tank operated by a foreigner struck a boda-boda motorcycle are infiltrated by anti-gov’t agents.

Yesterday, an artist was knocked down by a water tank resulting in her death and a boda-boda rider. Activists took to the streets to demand justice for the dead singer.

Speaking to Sudans Post this evening, police spokesman Daniel Justin claimed that anti-government agents that he couldn’t identify have infiltrated the group to implement what he calls and outside agenda through the protest.

“We accept peaceful protest as this is a right enshrined in the law of the land. But we don’t accept violent protesters infiltrated by outside agents that are anti-government and that seek to exploit the situation to get their agenda in,” Justin said.

“Currently, we are working with other security forces to make sure that clam return to the Juba, but people who went in to cause destruction on pretext of peaceful protests will be accounted for their actions,” he added.

Asked why activists including Wani Michael were arrested, the senior police officer said “anyone acting outside the law will be answerable for acting outside the law.”
