AWEIL – Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State of South Sudan have begun an investigation into the killing of two young men whose bodies were found dumped in Aweil town, according to a local official.
The bodies were found in the early hours of Monday and Tuesday in the Naivasha and Sika-dik neighborhoods, respectively.
Joseph Yaac Deng, the mayor of Aweil Town municipal council, told Sudans Post on Thursday that the bodies were taken to the mortuary while the authorities wait for their relatives to identify them.
“What is troubling us in town are a lot of things; the corpses were found on Monday and Tuesday, one from Naivasha and another in Sika-dit,” Deng said.
Deng stated that the bodies are those of young men, whom he implied may be connected to gangsters.
“We sent them to the hospital to the mortuary as we kept waiting, and yesterday the hospital’s medics called and informed me that the bodies have to be taken to the cemetery for burial.”
He stated that the medical results from the hospital indicated that no definitive evidence of injuries was found.
He said the report suggested that their death could be linked to heavy drinking or a fight related to criminal activities among the boys.
He encouraged the local public to stay alert due to a number of young men causing disturbances in the neighborhoods.
He also called on the local residents to establish community policing units to assist law enforcement agencies in addressing the increase in crime.
Recently, a man was discovered in a pool in the Maper-Akot-Aru neighborhood, which raised concerns among local residents and prompted them to request assistance from authorities for night patrols.
