A total of 1000 police personnel are attending the 45-day training.
Speaking during the official launch of the training in Aweil, the state police commissioner, Philip Madut Tong underscored the importance of the refresher training exercise.
He said trainees would be equipped with skills on how to tackle issues affecting civilians, citing the police role in maintaining law and order.
“We are launching this trading for you in order to know some basic tenets of protecting and promoting the rules of law. Those skills are engendered in the constitution and you’re duty-bound to know them as those laws are stipulated in the Police Act,” noted Madut.
He added, “As men and women in the police uniform, you’ve a great deal of task to execute the laws in protecting the properties without prejudices inflicted on the local population regardless of race, gender and what demographic area he hails from.
For his part, the state governor, Tong Aken Ngor said the refresher training calls for hard work and the spirit of unity during the program.
He urged the trainees to be friendly even when faced with problems.
According to the governor, the refresher training will involve the lectures as well as physical fitness exercises involving military drills.
During a recent visit to the state, Inspector General of South Sudan Police, Gen. Atem Marol Biar hinted on plans to professionalize the force.
The police dismissed reports that it was training the forces for elections.
