In late April, Father Christian Carlassare who was just appointed to head the historical Rumbek was shot twice in the led by unknown armed criminal at night. The police in the Lakes state’s capital later on arrested suspects including clerics.
He was then transferred to the Kenyan capital Nairobi where he is currently being treated and recovering.
In a statement, the Vatican said the Holy Father, Pope Francis, has now appointed the Bishop of Wau as a temporal apostolic administrator of the Wau Diocese until when Bishop Carlassare recover and ordained.
“On behalf of the Apostolic Nuncio, I wish to announce to you that the Holy Father Pope Francis has appointed the Most Reverend Matthew Remijio, Bishop of Wau, as the apostolic Administrator of Rumbek Diocese,” said the Vatican statement.
“Bishop Remijio will temporarily govern Rumbek Diocese until the Bishop Elect, the Most Reverend Christian Carlassare, is healed, ordained and takes over the governance of that diocese, hopefully as soon as possible,” it added.
