JUBA — A 30-year-old man suspected of shooting Bishop of South Sudan in Rumbek Dioceses, Christian Carlassare in April has surrendered himself to police, according to a state police spokesman.

“This morning, one of the suspects involved in the case of shooting a bishop two months ago has surrendered himself to police authorities,” said Captain Elijah Mabor Makuach, Lakes State Police spokesperson.

Mabor added that “Laat Makur Agok is currently with security authority waiting investigation”.

Carlassare, an Italian Comboni missionary who was appointed to the Rumbek diocese in March, was shot in April by two armed men who broke into the bishop’s house and shot him in the legs.

“All these times, the state authorities have been trying their level best by giving pressure to the relatives of the accused to convince him to surrender himself,” Makuach told Sudans Post reporter.

He disclosed the suspect who had been on run was convened by his relatives to surrender to the authorities.

“The relative responded to the called and managed to convince their son, and this morning he surrendered himself to authorities,” he disclosed.

He said the suspects will be arraigned in court once the investigation is complete.

“We have two suspects in our custody; one was apprehended in Juba and flowed to Rumbek this week plus this man who surrendered himself,” he said.

“The investigation outcome will determine when the case can be presented to the court. They maybe reveal some suspects,” he added.
