‘Prophet’ Abraham Chol to be released soon – official

When contacted by Sudans Post, David de Dau, a member of the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TGONU) who represents Twic East County where Prophet Chol hails from confirmed the process and said the man of God’s case is on the table of the chief justice.

JUBA – A senior South Sudan government official has this afternoon told Sudans Post that detained leader of Cush International Church ‘Prophet’ Abraham Chol Maketh’s case is being reviewed by Chief Justice Chan Reec Madut for a possible release.

Abraham, a controversial cleric, was arrested in July 2021 after making a ‘prophecy’ that President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his first deputy Dr. Riek Machar would go and a new leader will take over the leadership of the world’s youngest country by July 9th 2021 on the independence anniversary.

He was arrested during a midnight breach of his home in Juba by men in police uniform and has since been kept at Juba Central Prison and has not since been remitted in court for there is no known complainant against him.

Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, a senior government official in the ministry of justice who requested not to be named said Abraham is likely to be released in the next few weeks and that his case in being reviewed by Chief Justice Chan Reec Madut.

“Prophet Abraham Chol will likely be released in the next few weeks. I am not sure exactly when, but his case is being considered for dismissal by the high court because nobody has shown up to be a victim of any act of Abraham Chol,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

When contacted by Sudans Post, David de Dau, a member of the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TGONU) who represents Twic East County where Prophet Chol hails from confirmed the process and said his case is with the chief justice.

“Abraham Chol’s file of his case is before Chief Justice of the Republic of South Sudan. Chol has no case to answer as there are no accusers/legal complainants of his case. The case is highly and likely going to be dismissed by the Court of law,” the lawmaker said.

Hon. Dau said the case was submitted to the Chief of Justice by the public prosecutor with the ministry of justice and said he will discuss if Abraham Chol can qualify for compensation for his time that he has spent in jail without a court case.

“What actually need to be done is [compensation] he get released first and then the rest will follow,” the lawmaker further said.
