BENTIU – The holdout opposition South Sudan People’s Movement/Army (SSPM/A) led by General Stephen Buay Rolnyang has said that the group has resumed reorganization of its forces after interruption by the infamous Mayom County killings in which the commissioner was killed in an overnight operation.

A subsequent cross-border operation by members of security services resulted in the arrest of at least eighteen opposition figures in Sudan. Four were killed in Kaikang while it is still not clear where the other four are being kept.

In a statement extended to Sudans Post on Friday, Gen. Buay’s spokesman Luke Gattiek said the group has started its phase two of organization as well as training in areas such as Mayom County where they have an unknown, but a huge number of forces, saying an initial attack on their base on July 21st which resulted in the attack on Mayom town had interrupted their organizational process.

“The SSPM/A has resumed its activities of Phase-2, Organization and Mobile training particularly in Mayom area, after it was interrupted by the regime militias when they attacked the SSPA location at Bong area on the 21st of July 2022, which provoked the SSPA into carrying out counterattack on Mayom town and SSPDF convoy on the 22nd and 26th July 2022, respectively,” the statement reads in part.

“This is also to relieve impact of fear and anxiety among innocent civilians who have refrained from visiting their relatives in the towns and travelling on military vehicles in fear of SSPA attacks,” t[he statement further added.

It said that the group “reserves the right to fight in self defend should Mayom based regime allied militias make any attempt to interrupt Phase-2 (Organization and mobile training).”
