JUBA – The leader of the Patriots Resistance Movement (PRM), Laraka Machar Turoal, has appointed Titus Khor Ruot Wuor as the group’s new spokesman, according to an order seen by Sudans Post on Friday.

Machar, who broke away from the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) Kitgwang faction led by General Simon Gatwech Dual last year, named Wuor as Secretary for Information, Mobilization and Publicity.

Wuor will also serve as a member of the Political Executive Council (PEC).

The PRM leader also appointed Gahgah Wal Thot Biliw as advisor for governance and political affairs and a member of the pec.

“These appointments are effective from today on the twenty-second day of June 2024,” Machar said in the order.

The PRM, a rebel group with roots in the SPLM-IO Kitgwang faction, has been active in the ongoing Nairobi peace talks. Machar served as the chief of military staff of the SPLA-IO Kitgwang until July 2023.

The Kenya-led talks, known as the Tumaini Initiative, are an attempt by the Kenyan government to bring opposition groups that did not sign the 2018 revitalized peace agreement into the fold.

The agreement, signed by President Salva Kiir and various opposition factions, aims to bring lasting peace to South Sudan.
