JUBA – The leader of the South Sudan rebel group United Democratic Revolutionary Movement/Army (UDRM/A) Deng Vanang has appointed Miri Kueth Simon to head the group’s foreign affairs and interparty relations committee.

This is according to an executive order extended to Sudans Post. Dated April 21, 2024, the order cites Vanang’s authority under chapter 10 of the group’s constitution.

“I do hereby appoint Ms. Miri Kueth as the Chairlady for Foreign Affairs and Inter Party Relations with immediate effect,” Deng said in the order.

“Your cooperation and support to her while discharging her assignment is highly appreciated,” he added.

UDRM is one of several holdout opposition groups fighting the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit. They are part of the South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) led by General Thomas Cirilo Swaka.

Last year, a peace initiative aimed at bringing the holdout groups back to the government by the Rome-based Sant’Egidio community collapsed.

It is unclear if UDRM is a part of the peace agreement spearheaded by Kenyan and expected to take place next Friday.
