Religious leaders hold unusual prayer at Machar’s office – statement

JUBA – South Sudan religious leaders from the Presbytery Church of Sudan and South Sudan on Friday held unusual prayer at the office of the country’s First Vice President and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny, according to a statement by Machar’s office.

The church leaders’ delegation, the statement issued this afternoon said, represents various Christian denominations across the country’s three greater regions of Bahr el Ghazal, Equatoria and the Upper Nile.

“[The] leadership of the Presbytery Church of South Sudan and Sudan conducted a prayer inside the office of the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny,” the statement seen by Sudans Post read in part.

“The delegation mainly composed of Moderators led by the Moderator General, Reverend Peter Gai Lual, prayed for peace and well-being of the collective leadership in the country. The top Church leaders come from various congregations in the former Greater regions across the country,” it added.

The statement further said the “Church leaders asked him to remain seated on his chair while the prayer was being conducted.”
