RSF calls on ‘honorable’ members of SAF to align with group

KHARTOUM – The rebellious paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has called on those it identified as ‘honorable’ members of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) to align with the it in order to achieve the aspirations of the Sudanese people for freedom, peace, and justice.

In an exclusive interview with Sudans Post on Wednesday last week, Col. Fateh Al-Rahman Gurshi, RSF Spokesman, said joining RSF will help achieve civil democratic transformation and build a unified professional national army that protects the war-torn country.

Gurshi emphasized efforts to bring normalcy to the controlled states of Sudan, citing the reopening of vital facilities while also acknowledging lingering doubts about the sustainability of peace amid accusations against the RSF.

“In my view, all these costs come at the expense of the lives, properties, and wealth of the Sudanese people, he said.

“Therefore, it is required of the honorable members of the armed forces to have a clear role, understand this danger, and know that this war was ignited by remnants of the ousted regime and the Islamic Movement, represented by (Ali Karti and Osama Abdullah) and others who were released from prison,” he added.

Gurshi dismissed suggestions that the war will only end with international intervention, further adding that “these statements are untrue and have no basis”.

“These news items have no basis in truth, and we are aware that there is a third party aspiring to continue the war because ending it is not in their interest,” he said.

According to the RSF spokesperson, all the states currently being controlled by the paramilitary group in Sudan’s Darfur region are very safe and stable.

“We have made significant progress in rehabilitating and reopening numerous hospitals that were out of service since the beginning of the war,” he said adding that schools, hospitals, water stations and police stations have been reopened.

“Our resources are dedicated to restoring normal life in the controlled areas”.

Gurshi said RSF now strives to eliminate elements of the Islamic Movement who have “hijacked” the army’s decisions thus utilizing the capabilities of the armed forces to support the Islamic Movement and the National Congress Party (NCP).

Nine months after conflict erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary group, more than 7.3 million people have reportedly fled their homes, with children representing about half of the people displaced.
