Addressing officials and residents in a statement reviewed by this publication, Stephano Wieu De Mialek emphasised his administration’s commitment to combating hunger and poverty through dedicated farming initiatives.
The Chief Administrators underscored that prioritising agriculture is essential for achieving sustainable food production.
“This time, we need decisive action across the entire Ruweng Administrative Area,” Wieu declared. “Our primary, secondary, and ongoing priority is production. Representing the Ruweng government, the President of the Republic, and the Vice President of the Economic Cluster, the message is clear: we must focus on food production.”
Mr Wieu further articulated the goal of self-sufficiency, stating, “Our objective is to produce what we consume and consume what we produce. By doing so in Ruweng, we can achieve food security and even supply surplus produce to other states in the country.”
Wieu highlighted additional priorities, including security, agriculture, and health. However, with the farming season underway, he urged collective action to address food insecurity and poverty, which have significantly affected the local population.
He emphasised the importance of utilising tractors to ensure an abundant harvest in the coming year, setting an example for proactive agricultural development.
The Minister of Agriculture, Monylang Manyiel, echoed Wieu’s commitment, affirming that the administration will maximise the use of arable land to ensure sufficient food production for the 2025-2026 season.
“We have a clear goal this year, and we’ve started early,” Manyiel stated. “With nearly 1,500 feddans of land available across Ruweng, we are currently cultivating 8,500 feddans to meet our objectives.”
Ruweng continues to face challenges, including insecurity, which has recently displaced residents to neighbouring states due to attacks by armed youth. Despite these obstacles, the administration remains focused on leveraging agriculture to foster stability and prosperity in the region.
