S. Sudan cabinet passes SSP613 billion fiscal budget for 2021-2022

JUBA – South Sudan’s cabinet passed during a meeting in the capital Juba on Wednesday a proposed budget of 613 billion South Sudanese pounds for the 2021-2022 fiscal years, an almost 300% increase from last year’s fiscal budget.

The cabinet during the country’s last financial year passed a budget of 205 billion pounds, as country cope with years of civil war that has destroyed its economy.

Speaking to reporters following a cabinet meeting in Juba on Wednesday, deputy minister of information Baba Medan said the cabinet of meeting has passed the budget for the fiscal year 2021/2022.

“After deliberation on the budgets, the council of ministers passed the proposed budget by the minister of finance and his team. They have to inform the governance institutions for the last arrangement,” Medan told reporters in Juba on Tuesday.

“The resource envelope are as follows; gross oil revenue in this year 544.1 billion South Sudanese Pound, non-oil revenue is 58.2 billion SSP, borrowing, and support from donors 11.1 billion SSP which will make a total of 613 billion South Sudanese Pound,”   Medan added.

The government official said the new structure salaries of civil servants are yet to be approved.

“The minister of finance, Athian Diing Athian presented five scenarios for the salary in which the council of ministers approved scenario five,” he said.

He revealed that the cabinet has directed the Minister of Finance to work on the technical part of the budget before disclosure of the details.
