JUBA— South Sudan government has rescheduled the inauguration of the first session of Reconstituted Transitional National Legislature Assembly and Council of States for Monday.
The parliament was supposed to hold its first sitting today starting with an address from President Salva Kiir Mayardit to the nation from the Freedom Hall.
But in a statement, the clerk to the parliament said the event has been postponed to next week.
“The office of Clerk to Transitional National Legislature of South Sudan hereby announces that the inauguration of the first session, 2021 of Transitional National Legislature is rescheduled for Monday, 30th August 2021 at Freedom,” Clerk Makuc Makuc Ngong said in a statement issued on Monday.
“Therefore, all honorable members of Transitional National Legislature (both houses) are asked to report to the venue for registration at 8 am” it added.
On 2nd August, A total of 588 lawmakers; 504 from National Parliament and 84 from Council of State were sworn-in in Juba presided over by the chief justice.
The creation of an inclusive national assembly was a key condition of the 2018 ceasefire that paused five years of conflict.
The 68 lawmakers who missed out on the swearing-in ceremony are expected to take their oath on Monday.

The tactics of avoidable and fearfulness are not going to help the current President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his vice President Riek Machar Teny.
Independence Day was postponed because of fearful and the inauguration of the President members also was avoid because of fear something might happen. The leaders of South Sudanese need to learn some lesson from others world leaders such as Omar al Bashir, Libya President and the recently Afghanistan government. Honest leadership is the only solution but the use of avoidable and fearful, the people will study and one day they will be like those powerful leaders.
