S. Sudanese female students in Cairo welcome Egyptian decision to revoke visa requirement

JUBA – Female South Sudanese Students studying in Egyptian Universities and Higher Institutes have welcomed a landmark decision by the Egyptian government to revoke visa requirement for all female South Sudanese entering the North African country.

In a statement on Thursday, the Egyptian embassy in Juba said “all females are exempted from visa” requirement and all “male from 16 years old to 50 years old require to get an entry visa from the embassy” but would not be asked to pay any fee.

The statement, a copy of which was obtained by The Voice of The University newspaper, said that “males over 50 years old are exempted from via” requirement as well as “all individuals less than 16 years old are “exempted from visa requirement.”

In an exclusive interview with Voice of University newspaper, several South Sudanese female students studying at Cairo University said they welcome the decision and it show Egyptian support to the world’s youngest country.

Teresa John, one of the South Sudanese female students studying law at Cairo University Cairo branch said “I always travel to South Sudan at the end of the academic year to meet my family and always need a visa to return to Cairo. This decision now is a landmark decision and everyone welcomes it.”

Angelina Michael, one of South Sudanese students at faculty of science at Ain Shams University stressed that “the Egyptian people are brotherly people and the decision of their government shows the love and hospitality of the Egyptian people.”
