S. Sudan’s veteran politician Joseph Lagu admitted to London hospital for COVID-19

JUBA – South Sudan special presidential advisor and founder of the Anyanya I guerrilla movement, Joseph Lagu, has been admitted to a London hospital along with his wife, Amna Lagu, after a coronavirus test returned positive on Thursday, according to a family statement.

According to the statement released by the veteran politician’s family via Facebook, Lagu was in a stable condition though the family statement said the former Sudanese vice-president had noticed “unusual new symptoms.”

“Lt. Gen Joseph Lagu (former Vice President of Sudan and Special Presidential Advisor in South Sudan) has been admitted to hospital for tests and has since tested positive for coronavirus. He was taken to a London hospital in the early hours of Thursday 17 December with unusual new symptoms,” the family statement reads in part.

The statement added that Lagu was “breathing well and is currently stable.”

The statement further said his wife, “Amna Lagu had previously tested positive for coronavirus. She was admitted to a London hospital a few hours before Joseph in the evening of Wednesday 16 December. Amna is poorly but stable and is being given the best care possible.”
