JUBA — The South Sudan National Police Service on Monday arrested six suspects—including four women—in a targeted operation aimed at cracking down on rising crime and gang-related activities in the capital, Juba.
The individuals were found in possession of illegal drugs, bladed weapons, and rickshaws believed to be used in the commission of crimes.
Maj. Gen. James Monday Enoka, spokesperson of the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS), told reporters in Juba on Monday that the suspects are believed to have been involved in a range of criminal activities, including theft, robbery, violence, and drug trafficking.
“In their possession were several knives and pangas, which they reportedly use to commit crimes,” said Gen. Monday.
“We also found three containers of drugs, which suggests they were either consuming the substances or transporting them for sale.”
He said investigations are underway, and the suspects would be formally charged and arraigned in court.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as efforts continue to curb crime in the region.
He assured of public safety and calm in the country, cited the operations will continue.
