KHARTOUM – Son of detained veteran Sudanese Islamist politician Nafeh Ali Nafeh is threatening the country’s governing Transitional Military Council with destruction of the country should his father be handed over to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“If they handed over my father to the Western court, I will fight them and turn Sudan into hell because this is unlawful and a plot by the anti-Sudanese people’s regime to destroy our country,” Ebada Nafeh told Sudans Post’s Nancy Abdelrahman in Khartoum on Wednesday.

The son of the prominent politician insisted that his father is ‘innocent’ and claimed that all attempts by those he called ‘invisible hands’ have proven to be vague as court cases have been unsuccessful.

“My father of course is innocent and I believe you would agree with me that the invisible hands’s attempts to get my father to a legitimate court condemnation have failed and this is a prove that he is innocent,” he added.

Nafeh is a long-time ally of Omar al Bashir who was ousted by the country’s military following nation-wide protest triggered by bread prices in April 2019. Following the arrest of al Bashir, Nafeh was also arrested on several charges including corruption and the 1989 military coup.

He is also wanted by the ICC on Darfur war crimes just like al Bashir himself.
