JUBA – South Sudan army officer and relative of President Salva Kiir Mayardit who killed four people on Wednesday in Juba, Lt. Col. Lual Akook Wol Kiir – also known as Lual Marine – has died of injuries at a local hospital in Juba, relatives have said.

Lual is a cousin to president Kiir and has been terrorising locals in the country’s capital and have been involved in unlawful acts such as snatching people’s land by force.

“This is to inform you that Col. Lual has died here in Juba today. He died of injuries because he was beaten by protesters today,” one family member who preferred not to be named told Sudans Post from the nation’s capital.

The relative went on to say that the now deceased South Sudan army officer was defending himself when his bodyguards fired gunshots debunking reports that he was beaten after he killed three member of a one family.

“He was defending himself because after he was beaten, the bodyguards fired gunshots in self-defense,” the relative said.
