South Sudan media regulator begins issuing of accreditation cards to journalists

JUBA – South Sudan Media Authority, the government institution tasked with overseeing media operations in the country, on Wednesday announced that it will start issuing journalists and other media practitioners with accreditation cards starting October 17.

Elijah Alier Kuai, Managing Director of Media Authority said the accreditation cards will be given to working journalists and media practitioners.

“This is to inform the media fraternity that Media Authority will commence the accreditation of bona fide national journalists in the Republic of South Sudan with effect from media, October 17, 2022,” Alier told journalists during a press conference held in Juba on Wednesday.

“The purpose of the accreditation is to certify recognition of working journalists and other qualified media practitioners,” Alier added.

Alier said the accreditation cards will only be granted to individual journalists.

“Accreditation shall be granted only to an individual upon presentation of professional certificates, a recommendation letter duly issued by the media agency for which the media professional works,” said Alier.

The managing director of the government agency said the application forms will be made available to journalists next week.

“Media professionals seeking accreditation should submit their applications to the Media Authority’s office during normal working hours,” he said.

He revealed that the certification of journalists shall be done in accordance with Media Authority regulations on the accreditation of journalists in 2018.
