The land dispute taking place in Northern Bahr el Ghazal has recently led to the suspension of two local chiefs, including paramount chief Dut Majak Majak.
Speaking to Sudans Post on Monday, Yel condemned “rumor-mongering” aimed at disrupting peace efforts.
“Certain individuals are adept at spreading misinformation to create discord rather than promoting peace,” Yel said.
He addressed the disputed land, emphasizing his desire to allocate the site for a community project, specifically a new secondary school.
“As the area MP, I advocated for the land to be used for a project that benefits the community, particularly a secondary school,” Yel explained.
“However, some instigators attempted to exploit the situation for their own political gain,” he added.
The minister further denied any role in inciting violence, highlighting his commitment to peaceful resolution.
“Why would I inflict harm on my own community by instigating violence?” Yel questioned. “There seems to be a misunderstanding among some chiefs regarding the project’s purpose.”
“I intended to meet with them, hear their concerns, and work towards a solution that satisfies all parties involved,” he added.
Yel pledged collaboration with other leaders to find an amicable solution. He urged the public to seek a deeper understanding of the situation before resorting to speculation.
“We must strive for better communication to address these issues constructively,” Yel said. “Let us not allow spoilers to derail progress in our community.”
