JUBA – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has registered is government’s commitment to build relations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) saying his government is working hard to make progress on the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

The South Sudanese head of state made the remarks during a virtual meeting with the IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, in which Kiir appreciated the financial institution for its support to the people of South Sudan.

“I request this meeting to register our appreciation for the IMF support and to reaffirm our intentions to build relations. Quite frankly, our engagement with the IMF is getting stronger,” Kiir told the IMF top official on Monday.

“On November 15-16, 2021, Mr. Abebe Selassie visited Juba, which was an affirmation and a continuation of our relations,” he added.

While registering the progress made by the parties in the peace agreement, Kiir said the revitalized peace agreement is so slow in its implementation as it is silent on several areas that the parties are trying to resolve.

“We are making strides on the implementation of Revitalized Peace Agreement to unlock our country’s growth potential,” he said.

“I must acknowledge that the Revitalized Peace Agreement implementation is moving at a slow pace is attributable to the fact that the Agreement itself is silent on many areas, something that compels the parties to dialogue for a considerable amount of time before they arrive at a consensus on contested issues,” he added.
