JUBA – Police authorities in South Sudan’s Unity State have arrested three men in connection with the alleged rape of a 25-year-old woman in Koch County, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Brigadier General John Jock Deng, a police official in the area, confirmed to Sudans Post the arrests, stating the incident occurred at night in a local shelter.

The suspects allegedly overpowered the woman while other residents were asleep and unable to hear her cries for help.

The victim was immediately taken to Koch County Hospital for treatment.

“She is in stable condition, and the suspects are in police custody for investigation,” Deng said.

Deng noted that the assault occurred while he and the county commissioner were engaged in a peace outreach mission, meeting with local communities across various payams (administrative divisions) in Koch County.

Condemning the incident as a “deeply troubling” act for the community, Deng highlighted the frequency of such crimes.

The latest case brings the total number of documented rape cases in Koch County this year to four, following three cases recorded earlier in 2025, according to local officials.
