JUBA — South Sudan’s National Examination Council (NEC) has announced the results of the 2024 Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) examinations, revealing a significant pass rate of 94.9%.
The country’s general education minister, Kuyok Abol Kuyok, shared the outcomes on Tuesday morning, stating that out of the 77,264 students who participated in the exams, comprising 42,257 males and 35,007 females, a total of 73,326 students, including 40,427 males and 32,899 females, successfully passed.
Unfortunately, 3,878 students did not achieve a passing grade. The overall performance index for the examinations was reported at 73.1%.
The minister highlighted that thirteen exceptional students achieved the highest distinction, scoring between 450 and 500 marks.
He further elaborated on the distribution of scores among the candidates: 24,319 students attained scores between 400 and 449, the majority of candidates, numbering 442,368, scored between 300 and 399, and 6,626 students achieved scores ranging from 250 to 299.
An analysis of subject performance revealed areas needing attention, with Islam Religious Education at 51.1% and mathematics at 61.8% showing the lowest performance indexes.
Conversely, Science, with a performance index of 79.9%, and English, at 79.4%, were the best-performing subjects.
Kuyok addressed these challenges, stating, “To address these challenges, the ministry will embark on recruitment and training of teachers for mathematics and Islamic Religious Education… so that they are able to deliver the curriculum effectively.”
The announcement also included the names of the thirteen top-performing students across the nation.
Felix Luwala Wani Jube from Hai Negil Primary School and Moses Jerry Acire Ocaya from JCC Model Primary School, both in Central Equatoria state, jointly led the list with a score of 453 marks each. Following closely were Ador Moses Akoch Mayuat from River Baptist Nusery & Primary and Anthony Gubek Emmanuel Ladu from JCC Model Primary School, scoring 452 and 451 marks respectively.
Notably, Gifty Chandia Remis Aluwe and Sabrine Keji Paulino Francis were the only female students among the top six, both achieving a score of 451.
The subsequent top performers, each scoring 450 marks, were Felix Remijo Natale Ucin, John Deng Dau Deng, Kueth Biel Chiok Wiew, Michael Manyang Bol Maut, Noel Mokoto Thomas Justin, Peter Mabil Lueth Jool, and Wol Majok Adhieu Akoch.
The best-performing primary schools were predominantly located in Central Equatoria state. JCC Model Primary School secured the top position with an impressive 89.1% pass rate, followed by Venus Star Academy – Goroyo campus at 87.8%, and JCC Hai Negil Primary School at 87.6%.
Other notable schools included Juba Junior School (87.5%), St. Peter Primary School – Rajaf (87.4%), Emma Memorial Academy in Western Equatoria state (87.3%), Lofus Primary School in Eastern Equatoria state (87.3%), Venus Star Academy – main campus (87.2%), Ikwoto ALP center (86.9%), and River Baptist Nusery and Primary School (86.9%).
Sunlight Primary in Jonglei and Alliance Academy Nursery & Primary School both recorded a pass rate of 86.9%.
“I hereby now officially release the 2024 CPE results,” Minister Kuyok formally announced.
He advised parents and students to obtain the official results from the schools where the examinations were taken or through a convenient mobile application by dialing *113#.
