JUBA — South Sudan’s National Examination Council (NEC) has announced the results of the 2024 Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) examinations, revealing a significant pass rate of 94.9%.

The country’s general education minister, Kuyok Abol Kuyok, shared the outcomes on Tuesday morning, stating that out of the 77,264 students who participated in the exams, comprising 42,257 males and 35,007 females, a total of 73,326 students, including 40,427 males and 32,899 females, successfully passed.

Unfortunately, 3,878 students did not achieve a passing grade. The overall performance index for the examinations was reported at 73.1%.

The minister highlighted that thirteen exceptional students achieved the highest distinction, scoring between 450 and 500 marks.

He further elaborated on the distribution of scores among the candidates: 24,319 students attained scores between 400 and 449, the majority of candidates, numbering 442,368, scored between 300 and 399, and 6,626 students achieved scores ranging from 250 to 299.

An analysis of subject performance revealed areas needing attention, with Islam Religious Education at 51.1% and mathematics at 61.8% showing the lowest performance indexes.
