Kuyok Abol Kuyok, Undersecretary of Ministry of General Education urged both primary and secondary schools across the country to adhere to the new academic calendar.
“I am pleased to inform you that the Ministry of General Education and Instruction has scheduled the new academic year will commence on Monday, 5th February 2024 and end on 20th December 2024,” Kuyok said in a statement seen by Sudans Post on Tuesday.
According to the new academic year calendar seen by Sudans Post, the first term will commence on Monday, 5th February 2024 and ends on Friday, 10th May 2024.
The second term will begin on Monday, 27th May 2024 and end Friday, 6th September 2024 and the third two will commence on 23 September 2024 and end on 20th December 2024.
The letter dated 12TH January 2024, addressed to all states and administrative urged them to use media to publicize the academic calendar.
“Once you receive them, please distribute them to all schools within your jurisdiction. It is your responsibility to ensure that all the schools strictly follow the calendar,” it said.
It warned that any school that is found operating outside the academic calendar will be penalized in accordance with the law.
For his part, Loro Nyiko, Director General of Examination of State Ministry of General Education said the marking of primary eight examination papers will be complete within one week.
“The marking is still going on, it started on 8th January, and I think now, it is going on. The first week is finished. We divided the marking into two groups, group A finished marking yesterday (Monday) and group two is going to start marking which will take one week and the papers will be handed over to control,” said Nyiko.
About 69,675 pupils including 28,575 males and 30, 9098 females sat for the Certificate Primary Leaving Examination from 20th to 24th November 2023.
