South Sudan’s deputy foreign minister, Ramadan Mohamed Abdulla, said in statements following the meeting that the two countries discussed prospects of cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, water, trade, health, and education.
“We agreed to sign the Cooperation Agreement ahead of the visit of President Salva Kiir Mayardit to Seoul next year,” Abdulla said.
“I appeal to South Korean investors to come and invest in oil and gas, infrastructure, roads, railways, provisions of clean water, and inject more funds in the health and education sectors so that South Sudan’s universities can compete with the region,” he added.
For his part, South Korean Special Government Representative for Africa, Ambassador Hong Jin-wook said his visit was to extend an official invitation from his president to President Salva Kiir Mayardit, as well as expand and deepen bilateral ties and collaboration between the two countries.
“We will create a sort of joint ministerial committee so that we will be prepared to announce some tangible outcomes,” Hong said.
“I would like to deliver the best regards from the people of South Korea to the people of South Sudan and to reiterate our sincerest expansion of friendship and partnership with South Sudan as the government of South Korea,” he added.
