JUBA, OCTOBER 27, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan has said that the world’s youngest country will host talks between Sudan’s parties in order to end the ongoing conflict which has killed thousands and displaced millions.

In a communique readout by South Sudan’s presidential security advisor Tut Gatluak, the Sudanese parties agreed to give Kiir a go ahead to invite stakeholders for talks to end the conflict between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

“In the period from 23 to 25 October 2023, for the purpose of thinking about ways to stop the war in Sudan, unanimously all parties decided that President Kiir should invite all political and civil forces in Sudan, in preparation for South Sudan to host peace negotiations that will contribute to ending the war in Sudan,” Gatluak said on Wednesday.

Gatluak who is also the head of the South Sudan mediation said that the Sudan parties have agreed to support the ongoing talks under the US-Saudi-led talks for ceasefire in Jeddah to bring about an end to the fighting.

“All the meetings that take place in Juba, and also in Sudan’s neighboring countries, are supportive of the ongoing discussions in Jeddah, and we will be the happiest people if the Jeddah platform reaches a ceasefire,” he stated.

“The government of South Sudan is following up on preparations for the launch of negotiations in Jeddah on October 26, and we believe that the Jeddah discussions must produce three results: first, a ceasefire, second, the separation of forces, and third, the start of a humanitarian operation to help citizens,” he added.

Reaffirming the commitment of his government to help bring peace to Sudan, Gatluak said he will coordinate with the Sudanese parties and also said the war in Sudan is directly affecting his country which is also struggling to implement its own peace deal mediated by Sudan under the auspices of IGAD.

“It’s coordination with all political parties and civil society in Sudan, and communication will not be limited to the ‘Juba Sudan Peace Agreement Parties’ only,” he said, disclosing that President Salva Kiir has directed the mediation committee to begin communicating with all political forces in Sudan.
