JUBA – South Sudan government on Friday vowed to improve on its human rights violations record to avoid being thrust on the international spotlight.

The Human Rights Watch reports of 2021, documented series of human rights abuses committed by by army and armed groups against civilians including unlawful killings, abductions, and sexual violence, intimidation and arbitrary arrest and detention.

Between June and September 2020, UNMISS documented at least 21 cases of rape, gang-rape, forced marriage, forced nudity, sexual slavery, and attempted rape.

Speaking to Sudans Post on Friday in an interview, South Sudan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Deng Dau Deng, said the government will do its best to improve on its human rights record to clean its image internationally.

”We will continue to improve our human rights record and we will also improve our economic performance and we will continue to implement the peace agreement. These are the major things that we the government have to improve on them,” Dau told Sudans Post.

The senior foreign ministry official further said South Sudan will work toward improving its economy.

“We will improve our economy and implement the peace agreement to achieve stability in South Sudan and the region,” he said.
