South Sudan waives visa requirement for Ugandan citizens

JUBA – South Sudan government has announced visa waiver for Ugandan citizens, a week after the government of Uganda announced that South Sudanese won’t be required to obtain visa to enter the country as long as they have valid passport.

Last week, Ugandan announced that South Sudanese citizens will enter Uganda without the need of visa. That visa waiver came into effect on October 1.

In a statement yesterday, the ministry of foreign affairs in Juba said Ugandan citizens are not required to obtain visa effective October 4, 2021.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA&IC) of the Republic of South Sudan welcomes the decision of the Government of the sisterly Republic of Uganda to waive entry visa requirements for the citizens of the Republic of South Sudan with effect from 1″ October 2021,” the foreign ministry statement reads in part.

“In the principle of reciprocity, the Government of the Republic of South Sudan today has directed the Ministry of Interior through its Directorate of nationality Passports and Immigration to waive visa entry requirements for Ugandan citizens holding valid passports issued by the Government of the Republic of Uganda with effect from Monday, October 4″, 2021,” the statement added.

It further added that “All entry and exit points including our missions and embassies abroad are directed to comply with the directive.”

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan hails this move as a significant booster to the already existing stronger bilateral relations with the Republic of Uganda.”
