JUBA – South Sudan’s government has vowed to foil anti-government protests called for by a group of activists on Monday.

The group calling itself The People’s Coalition for Civil Action wants the president and his first vice-president to step down.

They accuse President Salva Kiir and First Vice-President Riek Machar of frustrating the people of South Sudan.

Some members of the group who were arrested in August after calling for an uprising are still in jail in the capital Juba.

Juba Mayor Kalisto Lado Faustino says his administration will restrict any gathering of two or more people in the city on Monday.

Mr Lado described the group calling for the protests as “people who are against the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement”.

The president’s press secretary, Ateny Wek Ateny, said those who are calling for Mr Kiir and Mr Machar to step down want “chaos” in South Sudan and for the country to “slide back to war“, Al-Watan Arabic daily newspaper reports.

I think the world has seen what type of government system in South Sudan when the protestors are threatened by government officials. Why bothering to say, you are a leader of the country if you afraid to handle the peaceful protests in the country? It shown exactly that, the South Sudanese people have no leaders otherwise, there is no need of threatening citizens and your are there because of them. If the South Sudanese leaders believe the government is for the people and by the people why all government officials are threatened protestors for what reason?

It is very unfortunate that, the absent of late Chairman Dr.John Garang has brought too many a shameful to young nation. I don’t see any reason why the protestors should be told that they will be killed if they did it. Can the President tells the world that, he is not responsible in the country, these people who are going to protest have been impatience for years waiting to see if there will be improvement but nothing helping them. If the government is not going to protected protestors then, it mean there is no government for the people a shameful on South Sudan officials.

Spot on. There is no government in South Sudan. The term is a difficult on, “isomorphic mimicry”. The meaning easy to understand however, all ministries exist in name only, but they do not achieve anything at all.
      Nothing.
Ministry of post and telecommunications, do nothing. Did anyone ever receive a letter via the South Sudan Post?
Ministry of this and that, only reason is to stick a syccophant in office, import some more guilded furniture from Dubai, a few fancy suits and polished shoes. That is all, oh and a few Landcruiser V8 of course. Then hire relatives to fill the ministry with people doing little more than taking chai all day long whilst INGO, UN WFP EU and others look after the people of the country. It is very sad to see. Garang would rotate in his grave.
