JUBA – The commissioner of Morobo county, Charles Data Bullen, has accused the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLM-IO) of the Thursday road ambush.

Two passenger cars were en route from Yei to Kayah, reaching 25 miles away from Yei and five miles from Morobo, when they fell into an ambush.

Recent clashes between the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition in recent weeks in Payume of Morobo county have displaced thousands.

Two people have been reported dead and four others injured during the attacks at Lotopiyo area along the Kaya highway, about 10 kilometres from Morobo County headquarters. The four wounded people are currently receiving treatment.

“These are SPLA-IO forces, who did this ambush, and it was officially laid by them, so it is not unknown gunmen as we used to say before,” said the commissioner Charles Data Bullen.

According to the commissioner, the incident has sparked fear among residents and travellers since the attacks.

“The situation in Morobo County is not all that good; the activities of rebels are proving to be hard,” said the commissioner.

Morobo commissioner said the forces have continued to remain in the bushes and have continued to threaten civilians, causing insecurity and displacement.

“Recently that there has been a fight between SSPDF and the SPLA-IO in Panyume. Yes. And this IO remains in the bushes, they never go anywhere, so these are the people disturbing the area currently,” added the commissioner.

The commissiomer called on the government and the forces loyal to the opposition party to resolve their differences, stating, “Whether by force or amicably.”
