YAMBIO – Forces loyal to Dr. Riek Machar and Gen. Thomas Cirilo have reportedly captured a South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) outpost in Kadi’ba, Mundri area of Western Equatoria State.

In a joint statement released on Wednesday, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) and the National Salvation Front (NAS) announced they had overrun the military garrison during a dawn assault.

“This morning, 24th September 2025, at approximately 04:00 hours, the Joint Force of NAS and SPLA-IO attacked and overran the strategic enemy garrison of Kadi’ba County, Mundri area, Western Equatoria State,” the statement partly read.

The groups said the attack was carried out in retaliation against what they described as “unprovoked incursions, harassment, and looting of civilians by unruly elements of the SSPDF.”

According to the statement signed by Lt. Col. Kenyi Mogga Lomeling, NAS spokesperson, and Col. Lam Paul Gabriel, SPLA-IO spokesperson, the assault inflicted both human and material losses on government forces.

The joint forces claimed they captured one armored personnel carrier (APC) in good condition, along with two 12.7mm heavy machine guns, four PKM machine guns, 17 AK-47 rifles, and other assorted ammunition.

They also alleged that 13 SSPDF soldiers were killed in action, while others fled the base.

“The rest ran into disarray and are being hotly pursued by the Joint Force,” the statement continued.

By their account, the capture of the Kadi’ba outpost has given them full control of the county.

The Joint Operation Command vowed to continue what it described as “surgical and special operations” across South Sudan to disrupt government forces and limit abuses against civilians.

The statement further advised civilians in Equatoria and other regions to avoid traveling in military convoys for their own safety.

The NAS and SPLA-IO commands also congratulated their forces on what they termed a successful operation and wished quick recovery to those injured during the fighting.

The government is yet to issue a statement responding to the claim.
