JUBA – The son of a senior commander in the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In Opposition (SPLA-IO) was killed in a car accident involving a National Security Service (NSS) vehicle in northern Unity State, an SPLA-IO spokesperson said on Friday.

Major Kerbino Yai Pazale, SPLA-IO Sector Two Spokesman, told Sudans Post that 2nd Lt. Chuong George Gatthuoy Thak, son of SPLA-IO Sector Two Deputy Commander George Gatthuoy Thak, died in the collision on June 1 while returning from Tor Parieng.

Tor Parieng is located on the northeastern border of Unity State, near Ruweng Administrative Area’s Parieng County.

“The SPLA-IO Sector Two with deep regret announces the passing of Second Lieutenant Chuong George Gatthuoy Thak,” Pazale said.

“He was fatally injured in a vehicle collision while returning from a mission to Ruweng Junction, near Tor Parieng. A National Security Service vehicle was involved in the accident,” Major Pazale narrated.

He called on both Ruweng and Unity State authorities to investigate the incident.

“The SPLA-IO Sector Two calls upon the Ruweng administrative authorities and the Unity State government to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident,” he added.
