Kori Ismail, a resident of Daleng, told Sudans Post on phone that the attack on the town took place at 3:00AM and was repulsed by the Sudanese army which is stationed there.
“This morning there was an attack by the SPLA northern sector under the leadership of Abdelaziz el-Hilu. The attack happened exactly at around 3:00AM Sudan time and had been ongoing until around 7AM when the army situated here managed to defeat them,” he said.
Another resident who refused to be named separately told Sudans Post that SPLA-North forces yesterday attacked Sudanese army outposts around Daleng and had since encircled the town from several directions with today’s attack being expected since yesterday.
“They attacked several places of the Sudanese army, and we expected that the fighting which happened inside Daleng today should have begun yesterday because they encircled the town yesterday and they were aiming at Daleng,” the resident added.
Since the outbreak of the conflict in the capital Khartoum in April, the SPLA-North has sought to take advantage of the conflict moving in to dislodge Sudanese army from areas in South Kordofan state and asked the army to move.
