JUBA – The chairman of South Sudan’s armed opposition movement (SPLM/SPLA-IO), Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon has appointed two new committee chairpersons.
Machar, in a December 31, 2023 letter addressed to the party’s Secretary General Regina Joseph Kaba, appointed John Dal El Tayib as the national committee of culture, youth and sports chairperson, replacing Cde Odhok Oyai.
He also appointed Cde Pal Mai Deng as the chairperson for the national committee for information and communication. Cde Deng also doubles as South Sudan’s national Water Resources and Irrigation minister.
The SPLM-IO is a political party and rebel group that split from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in 2013, due to political tensions between Machar and President Salva Kiir over the ruling party leadership.
