Late Martin Akol Bak [Sudan Post]
AWEIL – An armed opposition lawmaker in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State is dead.

Martin Akol Bak, who represented Ayat constituency on the SPLM-IO ticket, died after he was taken for treatment at a hospital in South Sudanese capital, Juba.

The deceased lawmaker was reportedly battling an unknown disease for long.

Gabriel Bol Dut, an armed supporter, described Akol as a man of high integrity.

“We have a lost a great member within our party. As attempts were made to lift him to Juba where the doctors have warned people against seeking other treatment as he looked frail before he passed on,” said Dut.

“Arrangements are being made to ensure that proper burial is done in his home town of Marial-baai such that relatives and SPLM-IO supporters on ground can go and pay their last respects to the deceased and pass condolence messages to the bereaved family,” he added.

The incident comes two months after Andrinko Ariik, a ruling party (SPLM) MP from Northern Bahr el Ghazal State died at a hospital in Khartoum.
