JUBA — The South Sudan Peoples’ Defense Forces (SSPDF) has been accused of launching an air strike on the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) cantonment site in Morobo County of Central Equatoria State and Manyo County of Upper Nile State, said Col. Lam Paual Gabriel, SPLA-IO spokesman.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Col. Lam stated that the site, located on the outskirts of Manyo County in Upper Nile, was reportedly shelled at approximately 09:00 on Saturday.
“On Saturday, 30/03/2025, the SSPDF continued with its war campaign this morning at around 0900 hours by attacking the Kendila cantonment site and the Mongoya assembly area in Morobo County,” Lam said.
Lam revealed that the aerial attack had no impact on the forces but caused panic among civilians in the area, leading to the massive displacement of the civil population to Uganda and DR Congo.
“The SPLA-IO condemns this act of terrorism by the SSPDF and calls on the international community to hold them responsible for starting this war.”
Any eyewitness reported that the UPDF Mi-24 Hind attack helicopters crossed from Uganda and conducted airstrikes on SPLA-IO military garrisons located in Mongoya and Kendila, Morobo County.
“Civilians in the area are evacuating, with many attempting to cross into Uganda for safety. Residents express exhaustion from the ongoing conflict and call for peace to rebuild their country.”
The air strike came barely six days after conducting an air strike at their base in Wunaliet cantonment site, west of Juba.
