JUBA – South Sudan army officer who resisted arrest on Monday triggering gunfire has now been apprehended, according to several police officers who were in the epicenter of the operation that comprised members of the National Security Service (NSS) and the military police.

During the afternoon hours of Monday, gunshots were heard around Hai Cinema in neighborhood in Juba causing panic among members of the public in the South Sudanese capital.

Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, a police source that refused not to be named said the army officer who sparked gunfire has been arrested and is now in military custody at Bilpam and will be arranged in military court soon.

“I will not say his name and don’t mention my name. The military officer who resisted arrest yesterday on Monday has been apprehended. He was apprehended almost immediately after the end of the gunfire,” the police officer told Sudans Post just now.

“He has now been put in the military custody in Bilpam and he will soon be arranged in the court of law for the crime on which basis his arrest was issued. This is a great step for the country that senior officers who are taking laws into their own hands are prosecuted,” he added.
