Apuk Mayen, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and her Sudanese counterpart have agreed to form joint committees in the political and security fields.
“The Minister of Foreign Affairs held a joint discussion session with his counterpart, touching on bilateral relations between the two countries in various areas. They agreed to activate joint committees in the political and security fields to confront the challenges surrounding the two countries,” said Mayen on Monday at Juba International Airport upon the arrival of the Foreign Affairs Minister and other accompanying delegates from Port Sudan after a three-day visit.
She mentioned that the two leaders agreed to coordinate and consult between the two ministries in regional and international forums, strengthen economic and trade relations, protect and encourage investment, open banking windows, and safeguard the interests of businessmen in both countries while controlling and organising movement across border crossings.
Apuk added that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the accompanying delegation also met His Excellency Malik Agar, Vice Chairman of the Sudan Sovereign Council, and discussed ways to strengthen relations between the two countries in the fields of economy, oil, infrastructure, education, health, and social welfare.
South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Monday Semaya Kumba, travelled to Sudan last week and met with Sudanese Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Engineer Mutasim Ibrahim.
The high-level discussions focused on deepening bilateral relations, with specific emphasis on trade, oil and energy sectors, as well as strengthening collaboration between the two government institutions.
The engagement comes as the two countries face turbulent times in oil export amid persistent clashes between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In August this year, Khartoum announced a decision to shut down the export pipeline, citing persistent attacks by RSF on oil infrastructure.
