PORT SUDAN – The Sudanese government has declared 15 UAE diplomats persona non grata and demanded their departure from the country within 48 hours, marking a significant escalation of tensions between the two countries.

The state-run Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the UAE Charge d’Affaires, Badriya Al-Shehhi, on Sunday to inform her of the decision.

This action comes in retaliation for the UAE’s expulsion of three Sudanese diplomats last week, including the military attaché.

That move followed remarks made by a senior Sudanese army commander, Yasir Abderahman At-Atta, regarding the UAE’s alleged support for the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Public protests also had erupted in Port Sudan, urging the Sudanese government to expel the UAE ambassador for his alleged support of the RSF.

The Sudanese government’s decision to expel 15 UAE diplomats marks a significant deterioration in relations between the two countries and raises concerns about further escalation.
