The withdrawal of the 1st Infantry Division from Madani sparked outrage among activists and citizens, who accused some generals, including the division’s head, of “treachery.”
Addressing military officers in Port Sudan, al-Burhan emphasized accountability: “Those who were negligent in the events in Madani will be held accountable. There will be no leniency,” he stated.
The Sudanese military ruler reiterated his commitment to defeating the RSF, calling it a “cancer” on the nation.
He also criticized political forces allied with the RSF, accusing them of seeking power “at the expense of the Sudanese people.”
“We will fight to defeat the rebel militia and its allies in the political forces that seek to rule the country through the dismemberment of the Sudanese people,” al-Burhan declared.
Al-Burhan further condemned the RSF’s alleged human rights abuses and infrastructure destruction, stating that the world has witnessed their “atrocities” against civilians.
However, al-Burhan also reaffirmed his commitment to the peace process, emphasizing that any agreement must be “dignified” for both the military and the Sudanese people.
“We will not sign a peace agreement that humiliates the Sudanese military and people,” he asserted. “There must be a ceasefire and the rebels must leave public facilities, hospitals, and civilians’ homes.”
Addressing accusations against the military, al-Burhan dismissed them as “lies” spread by “collaborators with the militia.”
He dismissed claims of the military targeting civilians in airstrikes, claiming, “We assure you that the army protects civilians, and this is a lie from them.”
Concluding his speech, al-Burhan expressed appreciation for the media’s role in exposing the RSF’s alleged crimes.
